Run Number 350 - The Antelope In At Hazelbury Bryan

THE “WONSTON HALF MARATHON HASH” (350)
HASH WORDS – 12 FEB 06
“THE ANTELOPE INN” AT HAZELBURY BRYAN

Time: 1Hour 20Minutes
Distance: 7.8 km
Weather: Clear, cold and wet under foot

The intrepid 6 gathered in the car park of The Antelope Inn, arriving from all directions, whilst the Hare Forget Me Not watched the football match taking place opposite, instead of enjoying another game in Wales.

The Landlady of The Antelope did the honours and took the obligatory photograph of the assemble pack and Forget Me Not delivered a detailed briefing, some of which was in French, giving Entente an advantage over the rest of the pack. It was “one dab and you’re on” so the pack went in three different directions around the village. Eventually, Walt caught up after picking the wrong trail from the off.

It wasn’t long before we reached the first check; at this point we negotiated the first of what seemed like seventy nine stiles. Madness found the correct trail along a footpath behind some houses, through an industrial estate and eventually out into the North Dorset countryside in the shadow of Bulbarrow Hill (the second highest hill in Dorset).

After negotiating another plethora of stiles, we arrived at another check; BrEW went one way and Ronlet the other, heading in the general direction of Bulbarrow Hill with the pack in hot pursuit.

Over another stile and on towards Wonston, passing the manor house, through the churchyard, past the duck pond arriving at a check near the school. Walt at this point had found most of the trails but not this one and went off for a long false trail, which had suffered sabotage. Entente and BrEW pick the correct trail; Ronlet then took an unofficial break to allow the rest of the males to disappear to enable the customary comfort stop. After negotiating another plethora of stiles and a trip around many fields covered in freshly spread manure and lots of mud and water, which Madness tried unsuccessfully to avoid, it was up hill towards the village of Wonston, for our second visit, with Walt bringing up the rear. At the next check, Madness shot down a long lane followed by the pack in the direction of home, managing not to stampede a couple of ponies and before you knew it the sports field appeared quickly with the BH3 sign looking most welcomed by the back markers.

An enjoyable, well planned run on a wintry Sunday afternoon, congratulations to Forget Me Not for his efforts.
