Social Hounds/Hash Puppies:Real Hounds:
THE WORDS
The 12 hounds, 1 hare and one real hound arrived at the crown in at Winterborne Stickland for the first Monday evening hash of the summer season. Shady and The Wanderer, plus Dumb Blonde, made a welcome return appearance, obviously champing to go after their winter lay-off. Madness gave the briefing telling the hounds there would be 7 whip-ins, 2 smileys over a 5.5 mile run. More detail was required as we had 2 maiden hashers, Nikki Brooks and Graham Plaice.
So it was one blob and you’re On. Warthog found the correct trail shouting ‘On On’ up a steep hill – not a hopeful sign for things to come. The hounds went up through the backs of gardens and at the check at the top of the hill, Walt found the On to the next check. Silent Running checked down the hill and found the On, followed by a whip-in at the bottom of the hill by a small stream.
After a short catch of breath, Ronlet raced off (slowing pretty quickly) up the opposite hill to another whip-in. Once the other hounds had caught up it was On across a long, long track led by Entente and the third much needed whip-in was called just off Broadley Wood. The pack was led into the woods by Warthog and Silent Running. After a few checks the pack emerged through the other side of the woods to a whip-in, where Madness pointed out an old mattress for any tired hounds who needed a rest. Strangely no-one took him up on his kind offer.
One and on was called and the pack headed towards Field Grove Woods where they were met with a very questionable smell for half a mile. Warthog, Jibber and Ronlet, with the aid of gravity, raced out of the woods and down through the final field to the main road. The pack gathered for the final whip-in and it was BH3 ON IN to the pub for the last ¼ mile. The pack returned to the pub with dry shoes after 1hr 10mins and thereafter for liquid refreshments, as there was no food! However, beer was all that was needed to acknowledge Walt’s 100th Hash. On On!
