THE WORDS
As it was the last hash of the summer, it was getting dark when the hounds arrived. But people were prepared with their various new torches for the evening’s event. Madness gave the briefing announcing it would be a live hash of about 6 miles, combing roads & fields. He left the car park at 1810 hrs while the hounds waited for the 5 minutes lead - a good time to take photos.
With the five minutes gone the pack headed out of the car park to find the first blob ‘On’ which was called by Kinky Bugger who led everyone round to the church. We found our way out of the town centre and on to the town bridge. Birdseye found the trail across a field towards the Mill. It was at this point he realised he had not changed into his running shoes much to the amusement of Warthog and Silent Running. From the back of the Mill the pack headed in a loop across fields and another bridge back into town, On On past the library and fire station led by Silent Running and into the local playing fields. At this point it was very dark but luckily a whip-in was found under some street lighting. Not wanting to hang around too long, it was On On through the estates out on to the main road.
After some confusion at this check between Kinky Bugger, Jibber and Warthog, the trail was found towards the fields but here we required our torches. Silent Running found the On and the pack followed out to the cross roads. We were now in Hinton St Mary (!!) and found the trail up past the pub where Silent Running exclaimed “**** me! I did a run from here”. We then carried on down a local farm track and out to Manor Farm led by Birdseye. Various remarks were being made by hounds about the trail heading towards Manston. However, a nice long route led us back into Sturminster where the pack scoured most of the local streets trying to find the trail. Warthog found some more fields for the hashers which led us to the old railway line and finally the BH3 ON IN.
Everyone gathered back at the car pack after a very generous hour and a half’s run! A very good route had been laid by Madness during which we didn’t even catch a glimpse of him. Warthog found some water to wash in and chatted to a couple of Doddlers, who happened to be passing. It was then time to head to the Bull for a well deserved pint or two.
